I work with the Anaesthetist to ensure that a safe and appropriate anaesthetic is achieved for each surgical patient. This entails my assurance that all medical equipment is fully functional and that all necessary equipment is available. My training and expertise allow me to provide a professional response to the varied situations this position provides.
I enjoy working with like-minded people, health professionals that are intent on delivering professional and up to date care with the aid of cutting edge technology. The opportunity to learn from colleagues allows me to challenge myself regularly.
I have had the opportunity to expand into the role of Cardiac Anaesthesia whilst working at St George's Hospital. This has enabled me to work closely with the Anaesthetist, the patient and the patients family in what is understandably a stressful time in their lives. This knowledge has also allowed me to work in areas such as our Cardiac Catheter Lab and also in the MRI suite in Radiology, areas where careful and thorough preparation highlights the skills required of the Anaesthetic Technician.
I believe that teamwork and communication are important values to have in this role. Couple this with the ability to work calmly in sometimes stressful situations enables you to work efficiently and enjoy the role.
Being part of the cardiac team at St George's is like having another family. You know what is happening around you with just a quick glance. It's an efficient environment and everybody knows you.
Being part of the team and being able to communicate and work as one.
