Current vacanciesPDRP for Registered Nurses
St George’s is linked into the Te Whatu Ora Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) for Nurses.
The programme aims to:
- Meet the requirements of Nursing Council of NZ’s competency-based practising certificates
- Recognise the commitment, professionalism and competence of nursing
- Support registered nurses in demonstrating their level of competency and expertise within their practice area
- Recognise, acknowledge and value a registered nurse's level of practice and contribution to their clinical area, customer service and the organisation as a whole
- Provide monetary recognition for registered nurses whose application is accepted at Proficient and Expert level
- Advance professional development
- Promote job satisfaction and facilitate the retention of expert nurses in clinical practice
Registered Nurses who have achieved a successful application at competent, proficient or expert level are exempt from Nursing Council audit when renewing their annual practising certificate. All eligible nurses are encouraged to participate in the programme.
Clinical Practice Programme is available for Anaesthetic Technicians. The programme aims to:
- Formally recognise advanced levels of skill and practice
- Promote excellence in patient care and treatment
- Ensure quality of service and customer satisfaction
- To facilitate the retention of our Anaesthetic Technicians in clinical practice
- To promote increased job satisfaction
- To encourage self-development and recognition of self-worth
- To support professional development and utilisation of knowledge and skills

St George’s Hospital offers a New Graduate Programme designed to support graduates as they transition into professional practice. We work closely with Health New Zealand – Waitaha Canterbury and relevant professional workforce programmes to provide a supportive learning environment and a positive start to your career.
Graduates participate in a comprehensive orientation and development programme, supported by experienced preceptors, mentors and multidisciplinary teams. The programme provides opportunities to build confidence, enhance professional skills and develop the knowledge required to thrive in clinical practice.
Recruitment pathways differ by profession and programme. Where a centralised graduate recruitment process is in place, applicants must apply through the appropriate recruitment system. St George's may conduct interviews and select preferred candidates in accordance with programme guidelines, assessment processes, and recruitment timeframes.
For New Graduate Nurse applications
Applicants are required to apply through the ACE (Advanced Choice of Employment) process.
Applicants must:
- Be New Zealand resident or citizen, or have a current New Zealand work permit
- Hold a Bachelor of Nursing Degree from a New Zealand Nursing Programme or equivalent overseas university qualification
- Hold a New Zealand Registered Nurse registration and a current Annual Practice Certificate with no restrictions that would have a negative impact on ability to participate in the programme
- Have graduated within the last 2 years and practiced as a Registered Nurse for less than three months at the time the programme commences
Recruitment process:
- Positions will be advertised on the St George's Hospital website and through SEEK approximately 4 months prior to programme commencement
- Applications must be submitted through the Nursing ACE (Advanced Choice of Employment) recruitment process
- Select Health New Zealand – Waitaha Canterbury as your preferred region
- In your cover letter, indicate your interest in undertaking your New Graduate Programme with St George's Hospital
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview at St George's Hospital
- Applicants will be advised of interview outcomes, with offers made in accordance with ACE guidelines and recruitment timeframes
- Completion of a clinical placement at St George's Hospital is not a requirement for consideration for a New Graduate position.
