The St George’s Hospital kitchen produces over 1300 delicious meals for patients every week and consistently receives excellent feedback.
“The food surpassed all my expectations, the presentation and the variety were amazing and tasty!” wrote one patient on a feedback form.
Hans Schuhmacher has been the hospital’s onsite executive chef for 12 years and prides himself on providing a wide range of delicious and nutritious food. He says his talented team appreciate working for an organisation that cares for and contributes to the community.
“It’s amazing to work in an environment where my team can make a real difference,” Hans says.
“Recently we made some bespoke meals for a patient who had been through ongoing intensive treatment. They were so appreciative, it made a real difference to their life.”
In any given week the busy team of 28 staff can also be catering for 1400 morning/ afternoon teas and 10-20 special functions, in addition to the regular 1300 patient meals.
A selection of the kitchen’s food is available to visitors and the public at St Georgio’s Café, a short walk from the main reception.
