St George's Celebrated on the National Stage at NZPSHA Awards

October 02, 2026

St George's Hospital has been recognised as a leader in innovation, sustainability and workplace excellence, having been named a finalist in three categories at the recent New Zealand Private Surgical Hospitals Association (NZPSHA) Awards. The achievement was announced during the 2026 NZPSHA Conference, themed Transforming Surgical Care - Innovating for a Healthier Future.

A particular highlight was the success of Chris Stevens, Facility Manager, who received the NZPSHA Sustainability Award for the Hospital's Decarbonisation Project. The initiative has significantly reduced the Hospital's carbon emissions through the electrification of process heat, replacing LPG-fired boilers with electric alternatives and delivering substantial environmental and operational benefits.

Chief Financial Officer Scott Bampton congratulated Chris and the wider Facilities Management team, describing the project as "a significant milestone in St George's sustainability journey and a great example of how environmental responsibility and operational excellence can go hand in hand."

We also acknowledge and congratulate Steph Feldbrugge (Colleague & Capability Manager) and Anila Thankachan (Quality Manager), whose work contributed to St George’s being recognised as finalists in the Employer of Choice and Innovation award categories.

Congratulations to everyone involved. National recognition among New Zealand's leading private surgical hospitals reflects the dedication, expertise and forward-thinking approach of St George's people, and reinforces our commitment to delivering excellence for patients, colleagues and the wider community.
